Carnival operates Long Beach terminal since 2003, but using only part of the Geodesic Dome (former museum). The new agreement gave the company 100% use of the Dome (customs and passenger check-in) for its cruise operations. In early-October 2019 were announced plans for the construction of a new cruise terminal in LA (adjacent to Cabrillo Way Marina and a boat repair yard). Currently, the building is used as an event space and only occasionally for cruise berthing.

Which Cruise Lines Sail Out Of Los Angeles

Due to the COVID crisis, LA's cruising operations were paused between March 15, 2020, and September 25, 2021. Most of the Carnival Cruise Line Ships and some ships of the cruise lines owned by Carnival Corporation arrive and depart from Long Beach. All other Cruise ships depart from the The Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center in San Pedro. The Los Angeles World Cruise Center terminal does not provide wheelchairs. If you require wheelchair assistance to board the ship, make sure to arrange with your cruise line in advance. So if you have a week-long cruise, expect to pay about $160.

Port Canaveral, FL

Completed in 1920, the Catalina Terminal on Water Street, in Wilmington, was one of the first facilities built specifically for tourist travel. Its traffic is such that the port is attempting to build an additional cruise ship berth in the Outer Harbor to handle the overflow and serve larger ships. Los Angeles is an incredible city to visit and one of our favorite ports to cruise out of. Due to its convenient location on the West Coast, it’s a short flight for anyone on the West Coast of the United States.

Still, it’s hard to complain when parking is a mere steps away from the terminal, meaning you don’t have to deal with long walks or wait on shuttles to take you back and forth from your ship. That may seem expensive, but it’s relatively affordable for parking compared to other major cruise ports around the country. Cash, credit, and debit cards are accepted, and you pay after your trip. That said, the port offers parking right on site that’s extremely convenient.

As the primary port serving cruise guests to Los Angeles, the entire area is available within an hour drive. This includes attractions like Disneyland, beaches, and museums. The World Cruise Terminal at the Port of Los Angeles is located at 100 Swinford Street in San Pedro. If you are looking for places to shop for souvenirs or to catch a break for refreshments and a meal, check out the restaurants near the San Pedro cruise terminal.

In 2018 was completed the system's upgrade for providing more electricity for larger-sized cruise vessels. Shoreside power was installed at berths 91 and 93, where 2 docked liners can be connected simultaneously. Utility bills (to LA's Department of Water and Power) are paid by the seaport, which then invoices the shipowner/terminal operator for reimbursement.

Development plans also included expansion of portside cold-ironing capacity to accommodate larger vessels. Shore power allows berthed cruise ships to shut down their main diesel engines and plug into the city's electrical grid, using hydroelectricity for all the onboard services. The technology greatly reduces exhaust emissions in port. It was a cool, rainy day when we were getting on the ship and we were kept under a tent at the port for almost 3 hours without any communication on why we were delayed. We were quickly checked in and given a number for boarding and sat in the folding chairs expecting numbers to be called out.

Los Angeles (Long Beach-San Pedro, California)

Los Angeles & Long Beach Cruise Hotels — Getting in late? We’ve rounded up the options for places to stay near the port. I will be in Cali traveling by the 22n'd but will try to have a look at Cruise Critic to see what happened with you. One embarkation was delayed due to a CG inspection for the ship but my 2 trips through there were fine. The dome-shaped structure provides embarkation, debarkation, and security services.

Port Long Beach's Pier 400 APM terminal (sized 2 km2) is one of the few fitted with large gantry cranes that can serve such boxships with 10 high (TEUs) above deck stowage. These cranes can reach 22 container rows across the beam of these mega-ships. In October 2019, Port Los Angeles announced plans for an Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal project (berths 46 and 50). The development project includes the construction of a new passenger terminal on LA Waterfront's south end. The 13-acres/5,3-hectares site is currently used as a special event venue and a temporary dock for cruise liners. Optional for the developer would be to operate year-round the existing LA cruise terminal (berths 91-93) and seasonally the facilities at berths 54-55.

Tell the bus driver you want to get off at the cruise terminal though you should see your ship when you get close. The two terminals of World Cruise Center are 18 mi (29 km) away from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), direction South. The first Los Angeles cruise port terminal has two berths 91 and 92.

The cargo port's previous monthly record (752,188 TEUs) was set in June 2018. In May 2017, the port's containerized cargo traffic was 687,427 TEUs (+6% over May 2017). In 2018-Q1 (January-March), Port Long Beach reported its record Q1 results, with its terminals handling nearly 1,9 million TEUs (+19,4% over 2017-Q1). There are two Los Angeles cruise ports – the World Cruise Center in San Pedro and Carnival’s terminal in Long Beach.

Everything you need to know to get to the port and start your vacation. In general, if you plan to stay in the LA area for an extra night or two anyway, we highly recommend using this tip to save some cash on your parking. I am going on the Joy with a disembarkation at Berth 50. I usually walk off with my carry-on and catch an early-ish flight out of Long Beach, so all of this information is helpful. I think you'll find that you can't go to Berth 46 on your own and the driver of any vehicle that is transporting you will be directed to go to the main Berth 92/93 complex. Check in time is NOT boarding time and if you have an early check-in time you can expect to have a long wait.

Before COVID, we would fly in the morning of our cruise. Post-COVID, there have been high incidents of delays and canceled flights. My wife Karen and I have sailed on both Carnival, Celebrity, and Princess out of Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera. It’s the perfect winter getaway and a short flight for anyone living near the West Coast. In Long Beach, City Place shopping center is north of the transit mall and has a Walmart, Nordstrom Rack and Ross Dress For Less. There is a Famous Dave's BBQ restaurant by the waterfront.
